On Thursday, I will be headed to Singapore and East Timor for a 12 day trip. I can’t believe how much preparation is necessary for a trip like this.
The purpose of this trip is to help finalize details for a team in 2008. This team will be done in conjunction with the Evangelical Free Church of Singapore (EFCS) and we will need to talk through what it means to have a joint team. We will be talking about leadership issues, understanding fellow team members, and how to work with the nationals of East Timor.
Please be in prayer for me as I talk with leadership of the EFCS. It will be very important for me to make sure that I work very hard to understand what their needs and expectations—perhaps more important than helping them understand what our needs and expectations are.
Also, I am looking forward to meeting some of the Timorese that we will be working with. Please pray that I can communicate effectively with them. There is enough similarity between Portuguese and Spanish that we will be able to speak without an interpreter. However, that means there is a greater possibility for miscommunication and misunderstanding.
I look forward to posting the highlights of the trip when I return. I am not sure about my ability to post while I am traveling as there is not a lot of internet access in East Timor.

Hi, Mike Gunderson sent me your email with newsletter and link to this blog. He knows I have been researching Timor Leste (on the web) for a while now. For some reason the Lord has given me curiosity about the country. My wife, unfortunately, does not, yet, share the same interest - she tends to be more down to earth! We do, afterall, have three young ones to raise (David (4), Debora (5) and Piera (9)) and a couple of older girls (Rafaella (19) and Gabriella (22)) So understandibly ditching all and pitching up at Timor Leste isn’t high on her most want to do list! But if it is the Lord’s will then she would be best to heed to the call! And I’m sure He will sort everything out just perfectly. But meanwhile I’m interested in hearing about how your trip has been and shall stay tuned to your blog. Bye for now and God bless you!
David.
