Rwanda Reflections, part 2

One of the people I met while in Rwanda was Esron. He is a gentle guy with hands the size of small cities and a smile that can light up any room. There are a couple things that really stand out about my time with him an I would love to share them with you.

There were several of us that sat in a room talking about how a LIVEº team would benefit the minisrty taking place in Rwanda. The room was pretty bare; a table in the center with a few chairs and a bench, next to nothing on the walls save a map of the nation, a small window opposite the door. Esron spoke of the way the schools was reaching out to the community and then a phrase seemed to be bit louder and more clear than the rest. He said, “The team can come to help in the school and we can reach the community for Christ.” He tied the stuff going on in the school to reaching the community fro Christ. Not only was it exciting to see that was the goal but it seemed to be his passion. I got the impression that he wanted the children to get an education and to become adults that could contribute to society, but far above all that was seeing the whole community know God. He was speaking of children and parents. I can still see his face and his monolithic hand gesturing in the air as he said this.

When my time in Rwanda was coming to a close we drove to the airport. He said goodbye to the others traveling with me and looked at me and said, “You know, no one is making you leave.” I told him that my wife and two kids might differ with that opnion, to which he replied, “They can come here. Please give me your passport.” Perhaps he was just being nice or he really did want me to stay. The world may never know. What was clear to me was that he felt the need for help.

God, raise up a team to help reach Rwanda! Amen
