I feel sick.
I have seen some statistics that make me want to toss my cookies. I was reading a book by Eamon Kelly, Powerful Times, in which he says that over 33% of the world lives on less than one dollar a day. What he goes on to say is that each day every cow in the EU gets the equivilant of two dollars for food and mediciene. That makes me a feel little sick and a bit angry.
There are people, many of them quite famous, that hear this sort of thing and they speak up about it. Bono, Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie are some of the most outspoken. Bono and Deamon have mobalized a pile of people in the One Campaign to try to get lawmakers to do something to help the third-world. Angelina Jolie has given more than 3 million dollars to try to make a difference. While that is an admirable thing I think there is still more that can be done.
Give you!
What kind of a difference could you make if you took two years of your life and gave of yourself. How many people could you teach to care for their water supply? How many people could you help gain a marketable skill so they could feed their families? How many kids could learn to read? How many people with AIDS could be cared for? How many malaria pills could you distribute?
It can go beyond that. I have heard a lot of people say that they wish they could do something to make a difference and not have to forget they are Christ-followers. There is a way to meet people’s physical needs as well as their spiritual needs. You do not have to be handcuffed by a government agency.
Now think about the possibilities. How many people could have their lives changed and have their eternities changed?
